Synopsis[]

During a quarrel among people in a crowd of Seefran refugees, everyone witnesses Trance Gemini making a flame into a miniature sun that splits into fifty more. Then the suns suddenly go out and Trance screams but remains before them, shaken.

On the Andromeda Ascendant, Trance explains to Dylan Hunt that her people, who call themselves the Lambent Kith Nebula, have a plan to destroy the Spirit of the Abyss, and it's not good. Dylan asks for a chance to speak with them to offer an alternative. On Dylan's request, Trance transports herself and him to the Nebula's home world.

The Nebula beings apparently look exactly like Trance, except one known as Maura, apparently their leader. She explains to Hunt that they intend to expand the All Forces Nullification Point to consume all three galaxies where the Abyss dwells. Outraged, Dylan points out that the Abyss wants this, and they would destroy Known Space. The Nebula beings are unconcerned, for in their eyes, life is momentary. Only the energy and matter that forms life is important. Still, because of Dylan's pleas, they will allow him to return to the Known Worlds before they are destroyed.

Back on Seefra-1, Doyle receives a distorted message that Seamus Harper succeeds in repairing. The crew assembles to hear the message. Harper plays it, and a hologram of Flavin appears. He reveals that all the Paradines have been eliminated, and Dylan is the only one left. In the hologram's background, they all notice a wash of light. Dylan says that it's the same light he saw at the Nebula's council. Later, he confronts Maura about this similarity, but she insists that the Abyss killed Flavin and not they.

Maura creates a Slipstream portal to the Route of Ages, which can lead the Andromeda and its crew out of the Seefra System and back to the Known Worlds. The entire crew prepares to leave the Seefra system.

The Andromeda then enters the Route of Ages, and during its passage through, the crew members have flashbacks of their experiences on the Seefra planets. Apparently, the Andromeda then enters the Slipstream, and the flashbacks end when the Andromeda leaves the Slipstream near the planet Tarazed.

On Terazed, they meet with a Triumvir and learn that the Magog World Ship was severely crippled but not destroyed during the Battle of Arkology, so the Magog could still be a threat. More amazing to the crew is that, as far as the Known Worlds are concerned, the Andromeda was gone for merely 4 days.

Then, on Tarazed, Rhade is reunited with his wife (whom he thought was dead) and promises never to leave her again. So he decides to stay on Tarazed. Unfortunately, soon afterward the crew of the Andromeda learns that 2 Nietzschean Prides are on their way to Tarazed, and they may be preparing for a battle against the Commonwealth.

Meanwhile, worried about his home world, Harper takes a Slipfighter on a trip to Earth. After they leave the Slipstream, Andromeda detects disturbances in the Earth's core. To his horror, Harper realizes that the entire planet is going to explode.
