|Form of government:||Systems Commonwealth|
Humans (Homo sapiens sapiens) are the indigenous inhabitants of the planet Earth. Unmodified humans as well as modified human derivatives such as Nietzscheans or the Inari make up 80% of Known Space population.
Humanity had been technologically advancing for 3 millennium before they were integrated into the commonwealth. At the time of first contact, they had several colonies within their own solar system on the Moon of their planet, almost all of the inner system planets, and some semi hospitable moons of the outer gas giants. They also had several exosolar colonies around Alpha Centauri and a few other planets and moons, and did not have faster than light travel or engines available to them until they began to make breakthroughs into quantum string theory that would have allowed them to experiment with Slipstream with potentially disastrous consequences until the Commonwealth made contact.
Humans made first contact with the Systems Commonwealth in CY 7055 via Perseids. By CY 7085, humanity joined the Commonwealth. They proved to be an extremely adaptable species, and they soon proved themselves as an invaluable and versatile resource because of their ability to adapt to different work environments and jobs that require different skill levels. Most of humanity has undergone genetic modification, ranging from having an advanced immune system to being the sub species known as Nietzscheans, who are genetically engineered to survive the most extreme of circumstances. Because humanity can breed quickly and breed many times in a lifetime, the populations of humans everywhere in the universe grew exponentially once they had expanded to other planets. Humans are one of the key species that has been integrated into the High Guard because of the ease that they can learn and be instructed and commanded, properties that are not found in many Systems Commonwealth species. For example, the Nietzscheans of the Commonwealth can be too proud and egotistical to train, and many species like the Than have insular command structures that they are raised to obey from birth, and as a result it is very hard to break this structure.
Humans have probably suffered the worst since the fall of the Systems Commonwealth. As members of the Commonwealth humanity's power and influence in the known worlds was second only to the Vedrans. With the Commonwealth destroyed humanity became scattered across the known worlds with many humans being enslaved by the Nietzscheans.
Humans are bipedal bony mammals that are an average of 1.5 to 2 meters tall. They have 2 eyes that detect visible light only and ears that can hear midrange sound waves. They have a calorie burning digestive system that supplies them with the energy they need. Humans usually have a lifespan of about 80–120 years, which depends on which environment they live in and how much genetic manipulation has occurred. Usually the longer lifespans are because of genetic modification.
Humans and Nietzscheans reproduce the same way with a male impregnating a female. The pregnancy usually lasts about nine months and results in a single human being born. Human children are usually but not always raised by their biological parents.
Humans are unique in that unlike most species, humans have no set of longstanding beliefs or traditions, and can easily adapt to any way of life. This adaptability is one of the factors that made humans such valuable members of the Commonwealth.
Some elements of human culture have survived the Long Night, as humans in both the pre and post fall era have embraced genetic engineering.
Perception by other speciesEdit
Different species have different perceptions of humans.
While the two species once had a symbiotic relationship, Nietzscheans view humans as being inferior believing that humans are useful only as slaves. Some Nietzscheans such as the ones living on Tarazed have been able to maintain peaceful coexistence with humans.
The Than Three Kull pity humans, believing that humans' small family groups are one of the sources of human suffering.
"With their minuscule families, humans are often forced to rely on a "state" or a "nation" for support." Pity them.
